The premier history museum in Northwest Montana preserves, presents and interprets regional artifacts and stories year-round over 22,000 square feet in the restored 1894 Central School just a couple of blocks off Main Street in Kalispell.

Four permanent exhibits cover Kalispell and its precursor, Demersville; American Indian tribes of Northwest Montana; the Flathead Valley; area wildlife; and industry, including logging. Two temporary exhibit spaces highlight specific collections such as inventions of the 1910s, cowboys, landscape photography, and historic uniforms related to the Flathead Valley.

The bookstore and gift shop stock a wide selection of books and items, many made in Montana.

Special events run all year long, highlighting history, music and more. Two elegant rooms available for rent also ensure that Kalispell’s oldest public building remains devoted to education and the community.
